Diamondback Terrapin Field Researcher
New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA)
The Diamondback Terrapin Field Researcher will be working with Diamondback terrapins, a threatened species of marsh turtle found in the local marshes and waterways of southcoast Massachusetts.
Duties include: rescuing nesting females; measuring, weighing, photographing, and PIT tagging adults terrapins; protecting terrapin nests with chicken wire and cages; fencing off bridges and roadways from nesting females; collecting environmental data; assisting with drone surveys and trail camera documentation; working with community members on educational outreach; geo-referencing data using Google Earth and possibly GIS.
