RME Field Technician – Health & Environment

Barnstable County

Barnstable County Department of Health and Environment is seeking a full-time RME Field Technician to support our Innovative/Alternative Septic System Responsible Management Entity (RME) program.

This role involves conducting water and wastewater sampling, performing septic system inspections, troubleshooting system performance, and working closely with contractors, vendors, homeowners, and Boards of Health to ensure compliance with regulations. High school diploma with either three years onsite wastewater treatment system experience or three years wastewater treatment plant operator experience. Equivalent combination of higher education and experience is also acceptable. In addition, either hold, or be able to obtain, a Grade 4 Massachusetts Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License. A valid driver’s license is required, and additional certifications such as Septic System Inspector and OSHA 10 must be obtained within the first year. This is a hands-on position that requires both field and lab work in varying weather conditions.
