Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is offering a unique opportunity for a high school student to assist in a research project aimed at understanding the role of ice sheets in Earth’s climate system. The project focuses on analyzing ice-rafted debris, (IRD), which helps scientists’ study past ice sheet behavior, and the mysteries of major iceberg discharge events., like the Heinrich events.

Job Responsibilities:

Work with marine sediment samples, specifically sand-sized grains of hornblende, using a microscope to identify and pick out relevant grains for analysis.
Follow detailed instructions and perform sieving and picking of these sand grains accurately.
Record and track your work in a scientific and organized manner.
Collaborate with Danielle LeBlanc, a postdoctoral investigator, for training and guidance throughout the project.
