Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution

CC-RISE is an eight-week, paid, summer research internship program for Cape Cod Community

College students at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) in Woods Hole, MA. The

interns will learn about scientific research and work in a research lab on projects related to deep

sea microbiology. They will also participate in research-related events in Woods Hole, receive

mentoring on the transition from a community college to a four-year college and possible

graduate studies, and take local field trips. By the end of the summer, students will present their

research results to an audience of peers and mentors. The program is sponsored by the NSF

Science and Technology Center for Dark Energy Biosphere Investigations (C-DEBI)


• Paid ($3840 stipend), 8-week, nonresidential, research internship at WHOI, Woods Hole

• Conduct research 40 hours/week in research lab

• Receive mentoring and training in scientific research and careers

Application Qualifications:

• Excited to do research in a science lab (no experience needed)

• Currently enrolled at Cape Cod Community College or another local community college

and planning to transfer to a four year college majoring in a science discipline

• Have completed 2-4 semester science courses (biology, chemistry, microbiology, etc.)

• A minimum 3.25 overall GPA

• Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident
