Seasonal At-Sea Fisheries Technician

Coonamessett Farm Foundation located in East Falmouth, MA is seeking a Seasonal Fisheries Technician to support our Atlantic sea scallop research programs. This position requires a combination of mandatory sea-time, offshore aboard commercial fishing vessels and office related work.
Essential Job Tasks:
- Ability to work offshore on the northwest Atlantic Ocean ~10 days a month (May through August, Total of 25-30 sea days completed by the end of the contract.)
Ability to work independently and as a member of a scientific crew aboard fishing vessels engaged in several of the following survey programs operating May through August:
- Loggerhead sea turtle tagging
- Scallop Enhancement and Georges Bank Seasonal Dredge Survey
- HabCam sea scallop surveys
- Sample catches at sea, collect lengths and biological samples from finfish and bivalves
- Use of computer software to annotate still images while underway at sea and in the office
- Complete safety gear and equipment inventories
- Assist Principal Investigators and Sea-Going Technicians as needed
Qualifications:
- Experience identifying marine species and knowledge of marine fisheries survey techniques
- Strong interest in fisheries research, marine ecosystems, and sustainable fishing practices
- Field sampling and data collection experience
- Ability to work long hours in sometimes cramped living quarters aboard commercial fishing vessels chartered to complete trip durations exceeding 5 days at sea without access to a wifi signal or cellular service
