The New England Coastal Wildlife Alliance (NECWA) is looking for interns for a short-term Marine Wildlife Stranding Internship. Interns will participate in NECWA’s fall and early winter marine wildlife stranding program on Cape Cod. This is an unpaid internship with flexible start and end times. For college students, NECWA can work with a student’s college to help them obtain funding through their institution. Being enrolled in a college or university program is not a requirement. All are welcome to apply.
Internship duties and activities include rescuing and researching stranded marine wildlife along the shores of Cape Cod. Interns will walk beaches looking for live or dead stranded marine wildlife. Interns will learn how to identify various species of wildlife and how to respond by rescuing live animals or necropsying carcasses. Interns will also learn about and support the other nonprofit organizations that are also operating stranding programs on Cape Cod focused on other marine wildlife species.
NECWA focuses on the “misfit” marine species that includes ocean sunfish, basking sharks, torpedo rays, triggerfish, coastal and marine birds.
