Summer of Science Programs for Middle School Students

If you ask us, summer is an important time for letting young people's creativity run wild—with STEM-inspired learning activities.

There are four Summer of Science programs being offered at Cape Cod Community College this summer. They represent exciting opportunities for middle-school students to delve into the fun of STEM.  All four are full-day, weeklong programs for students entering grades 6, 7, and 8.

Wastewater Issues in Watershed: Middle School and High School Teacher Professional Development

Wastewater treatment is the perfect topic for incorporating STEM into your curriculum while educating your students on an issue of crucial importance to the future of our region. The goal of this course is to increase understanding of wastewater issues by using it as an example to meet standards in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and to improve teachers’ and students’ understanding of the importance of coastal salt marshes and bays and the impact of too many nutrients upon them.

STEM Curricula and Resources for the Middle Grades

Come delve into an engaging set of STEM science materials with us on November 2 at CCCC. 

A curriculum development team from JASON Learning (a nonprofit and partner of the National Geographic Society) will be on the scene, setting up interactive stations and labs so that we can sample some of the activities hands on. They’re also planning a group lab, which should be a lot of fun.

Apply now—we will start reviewing grants on April 1, and the deadline for all applications is April 6, 2015. Grant awards will be made beginning on April 15.
